米其林輪胎發展免充氣輪胎已經好一陣子,透過柵欄撞的結構撐起車胎的形狀,除了不用打氣外,亦保有傳統車胎的彈性與低成本的優點,先前也曾展示用於腳踏車的原型,而米其林與通用汽車展示了搭載車用免充氣輪胎 Michelin Aptis Prototype 的通用電動車

Michelin Aptis Prototype 的免充氣車胎技術對道路行駛最大的優點,就是車胎內不須灌注空氣,也不用擔心車胎由於穿刺、劣化等各式原因而爆胎,進而降低車胎造成行駛危險的狀態,此外亦可減低由於穿刺、輪胎不正常磨損產生的輪胎報廢。米其林強調自兩年前就攜手通用測試 Michelin Aptis Prototype 輪胎,目標是能夠在 2024 年商用化。

此外,米其林也在思索透過結構方式與結合 3D 列印開發新一代的免打氣輪胎,米其林在 2017 年展出另一種概念車胎,透過 3D 列印技術不僅可建構複雜的絲網機構,還可針對不同的胎紋,更重要的是使用可回收與生物材料,強調能夠符合環境永續。
